Trying to shut down the computer through the Start Button results in a screen that says "It is now safe to shut down your computer." Call me lazy, but I've already told the PC to shut down once. I don't want to be bothered with reaching over and pushing the power button as well :)
Is there a switch that will make the computer shut down completely?

    Shut Down

You can set this option in the BIOS settings of your computer usually under power management. Depending on your BIOS it may be worded differently. Good Luck!

I ambled through the BIOS and only found options for the power button itself. This fix is actually for my boss's personal computer. He says that he has both updates for Win2000 but...

Thats odd. I just checked for the APM tab on my computer and I don't have one either. BUT my computer shuts down automatically when I shut down windows. I checked the other 2k machines in the lab and all of them have APM tabs.

So I don't know *** to tell you. There are two different power managemement schemes under windows. APM and APCI. You may want to start with the link below and see where it leads you.
