    Laptop gets a pop-up that says "Automatic Update's are ready to be installed "

    When "Install" is clicked, an error message comes up claimming;

    "Memory location 000000.x.00 (something like that, wasn't written down) can't be read "

    When you click to acknoledge that error, the box completely freezes and will not respond to anything except for powering it off.

    This is an almost brand new HP nx9420, Intel Centrino Duo laptop running XP Service Pack 2.

    Any idea's why?

    ps - after reboot installs are now working...

    I am going to guess it had a temporary issue starting the BITS service.
    You should update the BITS service, but treat your issue for the moment as an anomaly.

    Thanks mate.

    I will wait and see if we get a simular error again and if so, will do the BITS update.

    I hope it helps.

    If the issue re-occurs, we will undertake more exhaustive diagnostic steps.

    Regards.
