    Which is better:
    1) "slipstream" the SP2 into the original winXP installation CD;
    2) "slipstream" the SP1a first and then SP2 on top of it;

    By the way, what filesystem type should I use for *.iso to avoid infamous "missing files" problem (because of improper encoding of "-" character in the file names in some CD filesystems)?

    I have been using 'AutoStreamer' to handle the whole process. It is a terrific piece of freeware that makes the whole process nearly automatic. You end up with an .ISO ready to burn.

    No configuration guesses needed.

    Could not resist... :)

    :D
    • Place your full-install Windows XP Home SP1 CD in one CD drive (and exit the "Welcome to Windows XP" menu if you have auto-start enabled for your CD drive.)
    • Place your SP2 CD in another CD drive (and exit the "Welcome to Windows XP Service Pack 2" window if necessary).
    It should go on as follows:
    • Place your blanc CDRW in your CDRW drive.
    and so on... ;)

    Hi, booBot.

    Yes, I try to be detailed when writing instructions and I neglected to include that step (later in my instructions, in the Nero Express section). I figured if one wants to burn a CD, one would know enough to insert a blank into a CD-RW drive. :p

    I have not tried burning a slipstreamed Win XPSP2 .ISO image to a blank CD-RW. (I used a blank CD-R.)

    If you decide to give AutoStreamer a shot, please let us know how it goes.

    EDIT: BTW, if you want to get a SP2 CD from Microsoft via snail mail, here's a link to Microsoft's order page.

    That comment of mine was jus a "joke" I could not keep to myself, sorry!

    Yes, I've got SP2 CD by snail mail years ago, thanks.

    I will definatelly try the program as soon as I "slipstream" all the post-SP2 patches and fixes also. I hope that program is able to produce just the output folder (all winXP files with SP2 replacements in proper places), not ISO only. Does not it?
