The attempt to open an Excel file by double-clicking the .xls filename in Windows Explorer passes control to and starts Excel and then results in the error message:

"Windows cannot find 'fully qualified filename'. Make sure you typed the name correctly... "

It seems that Excel cannot locate the correctly specified filename when initiated by Windows Explorer.

The same happens when attempting to open an Excel file through a shortcut.

This happens only with Excel files. MS/Word, PowerPoint, and other files open properly when selected and opened from Windows Explorer.

    Using:

Windows XP HE Version 5.1 SP2
    MS Office 2002 Professional
