In an extensive search on the internet and this forum for a solution to the problem of opening .pps files in Outlook Express (as distinct from opening them elsewhere - no problem) I've not been able to find a satisfactory one. However, I have only this evening tried a suggestion from the net which has worked for me. I downloaded and installed PowerPoint Viewer 97 into the 'Programs' folder, as distinct from PowerPoint Viewer 2003. I then right-clicked on a .pps file, clicked on 'Open with' and chose ppview32.exe from 'Programs/Powerpoint Viewer' (the 97 icon with the spectacles rather than the 2003 icon). I then ticked the 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'. Now all .pps files attached to OE emails open without any problem. PowerPoint Viewer 97 can be obtained here: http://www.coseti.org/powerpnt.htm :)

    Lugwalker--Interesting.
Had you ever associated .pps files with PowerPoint Viewer 2003 (pptview.exe)?
And if you have any downloaded .pps files what do they open with now? I would assume in PPV97 since you checked the 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' box.

My .pps files were associated with PowerPoint Viewer 2003, but I could only open them if I saved the .pps email attachment to my desktop. From within Outlook Express I always got the message: This file does not have a program associated with it..... Curiously enough, my wife's laptop had the same problem from the day she bought it. Then I read about using PowerPoint Viewer 97 and decided to try that. I did so and now the problem doesn't exist anymore on either machine.
