O.E. wont save password

I have a local netword connected to the internet via dsl. 2 computers - 1,win ME, 2-winXP home.

Both are running i.e6 and oe6.

o.e. on the me machine works fine. looks for new messages when called up.

on the xp machine, however, it won't save the password in the account section. All items in the account are the same on both machine except the name ('type in the name by which you would like to refer the servers').

(tools>accounts>properties)

i have the box checked for save password, servers are the same.
Now the xp puter will access the mail but i have to supply the password
each time.

Any ideas.
