The "My Documents" folder is getting big and I want to move it off the C partition to another partition. I went Start > Properties > Move and tried to move it to my I partition by pointing and clicking where I wanted to move the folder. Nothing changed in the box showing where "My Documents" was located... i.e. it still showed on my C partition.... HOWEVER.... I now have what appears to be a duplicate of "MY Documents" named "Jim Documents" that mirrors the "My Documents" folder on C. If I add a file to C:\my documents\my videos when I reboot the machine that file that I added is also resident in I:\Jim Documents\My Video.

I don't know how I did this but I don't want duplicates all I wanted to do was move "My Documents" off of C and to I.

    I'm stuck!

Sorry for the long post.... Jim

    Hi Jim
    Welcome to the boards!
Why not just go to your "I" partition.......and make a folder called something like July My Documents. Go back to your C drive.....and your Original "My Documents "......open it up.....and copy the contents. Paste it to the folder you create on your "I" partition.
Once you can see you've got a safe copy made.......delete the contents of your Original My Documents?

Hi Daizy.... good question. Not sure if my reasoning is sound but this is what I was think'n. Being a new XP user I liked the idea of being able to access the "My Documents" folder via the start menu. I know about being able to make shortcuts and put things in the start menu but I liked the layout in the upper right corner and all that. Also, it seems to me that the move SHOULD work and I would be interested in understanding why it didn't or what I did wrong. Lastly, I find it very interesting about the fact that I am apparently mirroring that folder and while I don't know how I got it to do this it would be something I might want to do for backup in other folders.

So, any ideas on why it's working the way it is?

    Jim
