hard drive space reading incorrect

    I just bought a wd 250gb and installed wxp pro and now I click on local disk and it tells me that i have a total of 29.2 gb and not the 250 that I thought that I had.. Does anyone have any have any ideas?:eek:

    What are the specs on your computer and is this an additional HD?

    You may also want to update your BIOS and see if that helps.

    Have a look at the Disk Management console in Computer Management (Start > Run type compmgmt.msc, click OK).

    How does the drive show up there? Any "unallocated" space on the drive?

    What model/spec of PC?

    How old is the PC?

    What version of Windows?

    dell dimension 9100 3g processor 1gb ram supposed to be 250 hd xp pro
    14 monthhs old. my old hard drive went out this is a new one i have tried to install.

    What do you mean by unallocated space?

    When you look in Disk Management as posted by Arie is there a section of the drive labelled as Unallocated?

    You've been unlucky there - failed hard disk after 14 months. :(

    What size was the original failed hard disk?
