I am usually self-sufficient when it comes to handling PCs and windows, but this one has me stumped.

I recently built my new computer and along with it I bought a new USB microphone. On my old PC I would use Microsoft language bar and speech recognition quite often, so after installing all the features on my new build, I ran into this problem:

When I went to train the speech recognition with the wizard, it asked me to say a few words into the mic and it would automatically adjust the input volume. Problem is, the bar doesn't show any activity or input. The microphone is installed correctly, and works fine. In sound recorder, I am able to record my voice perfectly clear and the little green bar moves along with my pitch.

I tried all the settings for Input Devices and nothing will work.

    Anyone have an idea??

    Regards,
    Travis

And the setting for Microphone under the Volume Control applet?

(If not shown in the Notification Tray: Start, Run, and type: sndvol32.exe )

Have you checked to see if the manufacturer offers an applet? For example: http://www.samsontech.com/usb_mics/softpre_install/

Yes I have checked LabTec's website and FAQs, along with the settings of the Volume Control.

How is this possible? The green bar in sound recorder picks up the microphone and pitch, but Speech Rec does not?

Work through the steps again from first to last:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306537

    Then work through these steps:
