    HI Matt and Mike,
    The Driver Agent Scan Results by one of those repair for a fee companies on line show the following.
    Sound, video and game controllers
    Creative Sound blaster PCI128

    Display adapters
    Graphics Blaster RIVA TNT
    DVD/CD-ROM drives
    Creative CD4833E BC102

    IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
    Intel 82371Ab/EB PCI Bus
    Master IDE Controller

    I believe that I downloaded the drivers suggest earlier and they updated these, but the Creative Sound blaster PCI128 was not in that downloaded batch of drivers.

    I'm going to download and install quick time 7.0.3 which Creative states does not conflict with the download of the file.

    I did try a winzip. Mike it was #3 in the list driver only, but it didn't do anything to help. It was the only zip file as 1 and 2 are both exe files.
    I did uninstall it with add/remove function.
    Since it was downloaded to the temp folder, it will be easily removed from there.

    I found a site last night with the file showing 390,000 kb and I think if I could download it it might already be ready to install, but the website wouldn't connect for download.

    Gloria,

    I was thinking of the second driver download, which is an .exe file. But use the link Matt gives you to see exactly which Creative product you have. Installing the wrong driver may create even more problems.

    Hi Mike and Matt,
    Thanks so much for all the help. I think that I have figured out the problem.

    The file 2 is the correct one and it is an .exe file. The problem is that Creative states you require 7.0.3 in Quicktime to successfully download it as they have something called a "Demoshield ".
    7.0.3 is only available for XP and 2000 windows. The last update for Windows 98SE is 6.5.2 which is what I have now reinstalled since it is the only one for my operating system.

    A catch 22!

    I wonder if someone downloaded it and then zipped it, if my computer would then unzip it and install it? If so, perhaps Creative might help?

    I have a brand new legal XP program but am not sure what I need to do to install it without loosing my files. I thought last night about uninstalling all the downloaded programs,,,,,,,,Adobe, etc and seeing about it...........wow, just a chain of events that lead to more events.

    Gloria,

    What type of Internet connection do you have. I downloaded the file to my hard drive and can email it to you if that would help. It says it is about 4MB, but it downloaded awful fast to be 4MB.

    Gloria,

    Your email address does not show in your profile. I assume for privacy reasons, which is good. Send me an email through my profile and let me know what your address is. I will send the file right out to you. Let us know how it comes out.

    These Creative drivers might be hard to install. I tried to run the installation program and got a "sort of" error, click OK then the installation ceases.

    Gloria, you may have the latest drivers for the PCI 128 card available in your system already. You just need Windows to recognise and install them correctly.

    I might still have some tricks if the download/email seem to fail (Creative drivers can be tricky, their motives for making driver installation or update hard seem a little strange).

    Matt,

    The emailed program came up with the same results - they would not fully load. It seems to be a Demoshield problem with Creative. Gloria also let Creative detect her device and it is a PCI 128. If you have any tricks to get the drivers to load, post away.

    Gloria,

    Try the following suggestion by Creative for the DemoSheild problems.

    It seems that it is an add-in card (photo of an add-in soundcard http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=207&product=14184 )

    If you take it out of it's current slot and put it into another, the drivers should be reinstalled. Put it into a slot close to the edge of the motherboard. As you did previously, ground yourself.

    It should be no harder than when you installed the RAM, just make certain that it slots in straight and is fully seated (look at the way it is seated to begin with).
    You will need to unscrew the fixing bolt with a philips head screwdriver.

    Computer was beeping and missing Soundcard PCI.

    Hi Matt and Mike,
    Sorry for the delay in answering,,,,,,had to get to work.....the paying kind.

    Anyway, I discovered....I have two file managers on C:\
    One File Manager and the other one is File Manager 9
    Hmm, anyway the File Manager appears to be the original....but I can figure out how to search it for perhaps a hidden driver.

    I did however find file and located the following as listed below. Do you think that the add/remove might have just changed these settings and it is possible to recover it.
    I KNOW NOTHING, but it looks like this file might have disabled it.
    Thoughts please.

    [sbinf]
    9X=sbpci9x.inf
    NT=sbpcint.inf

    [driver]
    9X=sbpci9x.drv
    NT=sbpcint4.sys

    [sbpciremove]
    sbsetup.exe
    sbsetup.ini
    iwlang.dll
    clnutl32.dll
    clnutl16.dll
    clnutil.dll
    enres32.dll
    audiopci.inf
    sbpcir32.dll
    sbpcint.inf
    devndfix.exe

    [mixer]
    DisableMSMixer=TRUE
    UseCreativeMixer=FALSE

    Hi Gloria, yes, the driver files should still be there, but when the chipset drivers got scrambled, so did the soundcard drivers. The drivers need to be "reset ". This can be difficult with normal soundcards and will be even harder with the Creative soundcard because their's are a little more complex and have a rather complicated media player associated with them (Edit: and they like to be secretive about them :().

    Did you try the suggestions Mike gave about trying to run the new driver installation?

    Does the suggestion I gave about changing the location of the soundcard seem possible?

    Those are what I could see as easy "trys ". To reinstall the drivers properly they should be completely removed and reinstalled. You don't have the original installation CD for the soundcard and the driver download will not run, so if you uninstall the current drivers you may not be able to install a new set.

    Try our suggestions so far. Something else to check is to go My Computer or Windows Explorer. Go to C:\Program Files -> Creative (or Soundblaster), in that folder look for a Setup.exe or Install.exe, run that file (or go to Start -> Find and search for Creative to find where the folder is located).
