I have noticed that the lock symbol does not show up on some secure web sites. The page loads, the lock symbol shows for a second or two, then is gone.

    Any ideas?

It is fairly common practice to have a SSL secure logon page embedded in an iFrame, and then to transfer to an http main page after logon (and the lock then disappears).

IE should show a warning that there is a mix of secure and unsecured materials on the page.

The reason for all of this is that secured web pages are very processor intensive and if after a secured logon you can switch to unsecured contents you minimize processor load that otherwise would be taken in encrypting and decrypting all traffic.

Yes Bill I do get the notification when going from secured to mixed content.
I have noticed since posting, an S to the left of some http addresses.
I assume S is for secure?
