    Have you run Spybot S&D?
    Did you enable Teatimer?

Do you use Zone Alarm 6.5?

    Do you use NIS?

These are just examples of software that prevent persistent changes to the user Home page.

This can also be due to a virus infection.

    In any case:
    • Click Start, and then click Run.
    • In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    • In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey, if it exists:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
    • If the ResetWebSettings value or the HomePage value exists in this key, right-click the values, and then click Delete.
Note You may also want to verify any Web site information contained in the Default_Page_URL value and the Start Page value in the following registry keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
    HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
    HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
    • On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.
    • On the File menu or on the Registry menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

What version of IE do you have currently installed?
It appears as IE 7, is that correct?

    Okay.

What antivirus utility do you use?
What anti-spyware utility do you use?
What anti-trojan utility do you use?

Download this and remove restrictions on your Homepage: http://camtech2000.net/Pages/Restrictions.htm

If this does not work, could you provide a HijackThis log back to the Forum?

If you do not have this utility, download it. Install it into a new folder just for this application, do not install it directly to the Desktop: http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html

After you click 'Scan' and the scan completes, the 'Scan' button changes to 'Save log'. Do so. Notepad opens with the log on the screen. Click Edit, Select all. Click Edit, Copy. Close the notepad session. Return to this Forum and in a new message right click and Paste your Hijackthis log into your message.

What happended after you used the Restriction program to remove restrictions on your Home page and then rebooted? Did it not work?

In my first post to you I warned you that SpyBot would lock your registry entries. It is still running on your system:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll

Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > IE Tweaks.

There are three "Miscellaneous locks" on Spybot's IE tweaks page:
    • Lock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers
    • Lock IE start page setting against user changes (current user)
    • Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE (current user)

The second item locks the "Home page" from changes by the current user.

Note: Locking the "Home page" does not necessarily prevent malicious software from changing your "Home page ". In fact in some cases the opposite is true. Malicious software has been known change the "Home page" and then set this lock to prevent you from changing the "Home page" back. See the following Microsoft article:Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home page setting
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320159

Next, go into TeaTimer's "White & Black List ", look for and remove any entry relating to that change from the "Blocked registry changes ". To do this:Right click on the TeaTimer system tray icon and select Settings. This will bring up TeaTimer's "White & Black List ". There are four (4) Buttons across the top of the "White & Black List ":

    Allowed processes
    Blocked processes
    Allowed registry changes
    Blocked registry changes

Note: If you don't see all four buttons, try expanding the window to the right.

You can delete entries by clicking on the scripted black "X" to the right of the entry that you want to delete and then clicking the "OK" button when you're done. This will in effect make TeaTimer forget what you told it to remember so that during future changes to these items TeaTimer will issue a pop-up dialog rather then just a notification pop-up.

After removing the above entry, if you get a pop-up dialog for the removal of that registry entry do a "Allow change" without the "Remember this decision" option.

    Spybot sets restrictions.
Tea Timer as well can set restrictions.
You do not have to run Tea Timer to have restrictions from SpyBot.

I explained earlier how to remove restrictions from both SpyBot and Tea Timer.

As for the restrictions utility, there is a big Download button as the last line on the web page. The direct link: http://camtech2000.net/Pages/Downloads.html

bobm735--I hope the following will help you find the program recommended by Bill Castner.
It is the first link Bill Castner gave that has the big Download button
and also an explanation of the program "IE Restrictions ".
    http://camtech2000.net/Pages/Restrictions.htm
The link in the last post lists all the programs offered by CamTech,
    http://camtech2000.net/Pages/Downloads.html
and you would have to know to look for IERestrictions. Clicking the "Here" button gives you the download but no description.
