I cannot install WIN2K Server on a particular pc - dont know why so to check the disk I installed on 2nd partition of a pc running XP. I now want it off cleanly as I know the disk is not faulty. What is the cleanest way to remove all components of Win2k Server from a partition?

    TIA

    Oh Dear!

Thanks for the link - it says that I have to install latest Op system last - I didn't and now can't boot into XP, I select XP - but get a msg "WIN2ooo cannot load...... "
Is there a solution or have I ruined my system?

Depends. You probably have one or more bad entries in the boot.ini file. Luckily it is a text file and easy to edit. Unluckily it is pretty cryptic even though short. My guess is that a correct entry in that file will allow XP to start.

Probably need to boot to the repair console so you can edit the file. First, take a look at:

Purpose of the BOOT.INI File in Windows 2000 or Windows NT (Q99743) and follow the link to the XP version so you can read both.

And some additional good information from links on Here.

If you get completely stuck and are able to get to a copy of boot.ini, you can copy it to here and maybe get additional suggestions. As I said, it is a short text file. For example, mine (XP-Pro single boot system) looks like:

The w2k install probably replaced the XP boot files with its own, which won't start XP. Copy the XP boot files (ntldr - and maybe ntdect.com also) to C:, and you may be OK.
