McAfee Problems

I recently purchased McAfee ISS8 (Internet Sec Suite) CD, & have had only problems w/my PC since... i.e.: PC slow-down on boot... PC appears to be in 'timed-loop'.... if I click mouse before system 'settles down', it hangs-up; if try to update or enable ISS8 components, must go thru same 'settle-down' process, or risk total PC hang-up; it appears that altho McAfee is one of the higher rated Sec S/W packages, there are some basic incompatabilities w/WIN (XP Home) OS. As of now , I've removed all ISS8 s/w & PC is back to normal.... any advice?? Tx

Some basic questions: do have any other security app running like AV or Firewall or Anti Spyware running in the background?

If not, then this is not a specific problem, you shouldn't use McAfee - seems to be incompatable with your system.

There are trials available for most software, especially security software, and McAfee is no different. Purchasing was not necessary to try it.

Chas... tx for the quick response... I also use AVG, Avira & 'manually activated' AS cleaners.... when I loaded McAfee, I terminated ALL AV/AS s/w (including whatever WIN XP had running)... NO JOY... I've now totally removed all McAfee s/w & JOY... PC running smoothly/ back to normal... tx

The fact that you had AVG, Avira installed, if that's what you mean, was a good reason for McAfee not running well. Having more than one AV installed most of the time causes problems. There are a few AV's that tolerate another AV installed, but that's hit or miss.

I should have specifally use the word installed in my first post, disabling is not enough.

Chas... tried your advice... totally removed AVG & AVIRA s/w... reinstalled/resetup ISS8.. NO JOY!... probs include TASKBAR icon (black M showing various components disabled); try enabling &/or updating, get PC hangup; w/'blackM', if try accessing anything on desktop (left or right mouse-click) get PC hang; access TASKBAR icon for status, not same status if access desktop shortcut; I believe there's a real systemic problem w/ISS8, or a gross incompatibility between ISS8 & WIN XP! Tx for your attempts to help, but I've totally removed McAfee & reinstalled previous AV/AS s/w.. tx
