New version of AVG anti-virus free editon

Grisoft has announced a new version of their AVG anti-virus, including the free edition. The current version will be discontinued as of 1/15/07. You can get the new version here; http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

Pay attention to the upgrade instructions right above the link to download the install file.

 

Ok, can I download it now? Do I need to uninstall the AVG I currently run?
Or is the Pro one "better? "

I have been looking for a new AV. Free or pay. Zone-Alarm AV look good also.

If you are using the pro version of AVG and you are satisfied with it, I'd stick to it. I use the free edition myself and I'm happy with it. The pro version has a few more bells and whistles, plus tech support.

The link I posted was to the install file for the free version. It's basically an in place upgrade over V7.1. I can't speak to the install of the pro version, although I would imagine it would be the same kind of upgrade. I would visit the AVG site http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1 for info on upgrading your pro version.

Whoops, I meant I have the free version. Do I just install the new free version over it.

i also use the free version of avg on some clients machines basically ones without high speed ability. i am a big fan of ZoneAlarm and a product called Bitdefender. Very nice program. 2 years 2 machines 49.95 for the av10 plus version. only thing this version doesnt have is parental control. give a try very nice and a nice interface/gui.

 

Installing new version

Hi,
I use the free version of AVG and want to upgrade to the 7.5 version. Do I need to uninstall my current version? If so, what is the best way to do this. Any other pertinent info is much appreciated.

I also use the free version and upgraded to 7.5.
No, you do not need to uninstall the old version.
After launching the downloaded exe file, click on "repairâ€
This will override all files and set up the new version on your computer.
