    Hello,

I have been using Netscape 7.0 for mail client, the S.O is Win XP SP2, yesterday don't download the messages from the mail server, it show me this messages: "Don´t write mail in the mailbox ".
I have enough space in the hard disk and nobody change the privileges of the files.

In the inbox there are 955 messages
And the size of the file Inbox (C:\Documents and Settings\user\Datos de programa\Mozilla\Profiles\default\ijq7az58.slt\Mail\Local Folders) is 2Gb
All messages in inbox are about 1Kb or 2 Kb.

    What can i do?

    Thanks for your help. :)

    Regards,

    Diana

2 GB is a way too much for your Inbox. Do you need to save everything, and, if so, can't you put some of the older e-mail in a separate folder? I have kept up a constant cleaning job, with fewer than that 100 messages in my Inbox.
Also, the folders should be, periodically, compacted, to remove deleted mail from remaining associated with the Inbox. Most likely, that is your problem.

Hi Diana, I'll give you my 2 cents because except for the pure junk, I also like saving most of my old messages and appears you do the same.

However, as Ramona and Westside have always cautioned, keeping too many messages in one folder can cause problems.

I therefore developed myself the habit of RIGHT clicking on the current INBOX at the end of each month and making a folder off of the INBOX and I name the folders 06-01 for January 2006 and 06-02 for February & so on and so forth for the complete year.

Naming the folders using the format of 06-0? for each month will keep the folders lined up in the same order as they occurr.

I next sort, the current INBOX mail by DATE and select all the files for the given month and then RIGHT click on the selected messages and move them to the folder created for that months mail. Ref: the screen shot at http://www.raysmyth.net/s-shot-1.jpg to see what my folder setup looks like through the month of October 2006.

I use the same procedure for all my SENT mail except of coures make the folders off of the SENT folder.

In addition to the monthly folders I make other folders if I have a lot of e-mail relative to one subject or some other special reason for isolating the e-mail from all the rest and move that mail to the special folder.

Because of my keeping all the mesages, I then take it one step further and make a new profile at the end of each year and name the profiles using the format of RAY-2005 - RAY-2006 - RAY-2007 etc. etc.

Having a new Profile each year reduces the number of folders I am routinely looking at on the screen and provides for isolating all of last years mail to a safe backed up position.

Loading up an old profile is simple enough on those occassion when I need to reference old e-mail messages.

This procedure provides for grouping the messages in a fashion which aides in recalling certain messages because usually one can recall the approximate month and year of a given message.

AND YES, there are other ways to do it but, this works for me.

    My 2 cents -- Ray
