No one is allowed to talk while the software is installing:eek: (j/k)

Instead of running Setup.exe for example, many programs will allow you to run setup.exe followed by several switches that "answer" prompts that the user would normally answer.

One switch for example would tell the installation routine to take the default location of C:\Program Files\

Your friend and mine Mr Google has a ton more information on the subject.

Found lots of info on "silent install "...I'm clear on that issue. Unless I'm overlooking something, I haven't found a description of what it means to "RUN PROGRAM SILENTLY ".

I'd imagine it'd follow the same concept.

What "context" are you seeing the phrase?

This is regarding free software called CCleaner. The following is from an FAQ for this software:

"Help - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can the program be installed silently?

Use a /S (uppercase) parameter when you run the installer. This will use all the default options and not bring up any option windows.

To run the cleaner silently, use the /AUTO parameter on ccleaner.exe. "

The second part is what I don't understand about "running" the program silently.

    Silent install:
Do not prompt user for input, just automatically use the inputs specified in the command line (or the defaults).

    Run silently:
Not sure, but I'd assume that this means without a GUI. ie as a process rather than an application.

    Hello David,

    Yes, it could be that.

Also that a program will run by default parameters and/or user defined parameters w/o further user interaction.

An example - one of the apps that I run is SSM which is a process firewall:
