I do a ton of photo editing for my online store and my wonderful NEC/Mitsubishi Diamondtron 19" monitor is showing signs of dying - jumpy picture and lines going through it.

Where can I find another one of these beauties to replace it?

I found the selection of CRTs to be so limited that I started considering LCDs but what I've read about them sounds like they are not intended for anyone doing photo/video/graphics work: smaller color palette, color dithering, unfaithful color reproduction.

In all honesty, they sound like "cheese" compared to CRTs. Many graphics professionals use Macs but they also work on PCs so they can work with the right color profiles for PC.

Anybody know of any places with a large selection of monitors? I'm looking for a 19" trinitron-type monitor, not a shadow-mask type. Unfortunately, I can't wait for organic LEDS!

Well I couldn't find any "delete thread" function so here's how it played out. I went to the NEC/Mitsubishi website - the mfr. that I consider to make, hands down, the best CRTs. They only had one decent 19" CRT, the MultiSync FE992-BK and that didn't even use Trinitron tech., it was a shadow mask CRT!

I researched LCD monitors but the first article I read stated that if you're looking to do photo editing, you need to get a CRT - period. I then found this article which showed that two of the LCDs had very good color reproduction - the Viewsonic VP930b and the Samsung 970P.

The former of the two had very good color reproduction and was an all-around good LCD for gaming and video. After doing a bit more research on this monitor and finding many saying it was the "leader in the field" and reading that some people used it for photo editing, I ordered it.

Let's hope the transition from CRT to LCD for photo editing doesn't leave me a bitter recluse living in a clearing under the roots of a huge oak tree eating grubs and cursing to myself.

    Hi Gary,

I'm still using a 5 yr old 17" flat screen trinitron that's still going strong. I know when it dies (if ever :) ) I'm going to have to go to LCD's. By that time I hope the newer technology catches up to the CRT's at the comparable price/performance point.

Don't care about space that the CRT takes up or the heat, which is about the only advantages an LCD has at this time.

    Regards - Charles

Time catches up with all of us - I still have two 21" Nokia's but am only using them for setups these days as I've gone all LCD's in my office. In any event, here's a link that should give you some relief. I've bought from them before and would highly recommend their refurbished CRT's. Very good quality.

    ;)
