Every once in a while IE will freeze up after landing on a web page (actualloy, it serems to happen fairly often when I got to MSNBC.com).

The cursor moves, but no action is possible, and I have to use task manager to close out the program.

I'm using IE version 6.0.2900.2180 SP2. I have cookies enabled and unrestricted, and can think of no other reason why it would freeze up when landing at some but not other sites.

Any ideas about what's causing this?

    Hi Dave,

Do you use a pop up blocker? These sites want to deliver adverts and blocking them sometimes causes problems like this.

Sites like NBC, NY Times, etc, pull parts of other site's web pages into the web page you're trying to download.

As an experiment, put it into your trusted sites zone and see if that speeds it up.

    And is this IE6 - IE7?

    Regards - Charles

Disabling the popup blocker solved the problem.

Of course, that's really not a good solution, so maybe the best approach is every time I land on a site that freezes me, I'll temporarily disable the blocker. A bit of a drag, but what else is there to do?

In Pop-up Blocker Settings you can specify by site whether the popups will be blocked.

Place the sites you want exempted in the list.
