I was on the verge of completing the re-installation of NS 7.1 and installing NS 8.0 when I read all the relevant postings on this and other sites. I have since concluded that I should get out of Netscape (7.1 and 8.0x) altogether and switch to Microsoft or go to Thunderbird and Firefox. I uninstalled both NS 8.0 and 7.1. NS 8.0 was a clean uninstall. NS 7.1 left quite a few folders behind. I cleaned off (deleted) all of the residual NS folders and files except for a Java Folder and a Plugin Folder. I rebooted and my startup was fast, clean, and uneventful. Everything appears to run well. I took a look at the Registry and counted a total of 18 Mozilla Folders and one Netscape Folder. Would there be a problem if I deleted these folders, except for those that may be required for Java or the Plugins? Or, could I delete them all and also delete the residual Java and Plugin folders that were previously installed and start completely fresh.

I am trying to get rid of the garbage while it is still easy to identify.

    Thanks for the help.

P.S. I had to re-install Internet Security after I ran into a conflict. I was instructed by Symantec to delete all Norton Folders in the Registry and re-start clean. It worked and there was no problem!

    Welcome to the Forum, bimbim!

    bimbim,

If you have no other Mozilla browsers installed, then by all means use your Registry Cleaner and remove all instances of Netscape 7.1 and 8.0.

There is also a mozilla.org folder which should be deleted, and is located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org

I wouldn't uninstall Java, however, as you will need it to view a lot of web sites. The latest version of Java can be downloaded here:
    J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

I would save the plugins folder, especially if you have installed Netscape plugins, as some of them may work for Firefox.

The link does not work, unless you login, or register. However, it is possible to get the update from the Control Panel, etc.

    Romona and Westside,

Thanks for your help. I may be back with another question if I run into a problem. My progress has been a bit slow. I have been doing a little traveling recently. WindowsBBS is an excellent forum.
