Random Crashes + Blue Screen of Death + Random Freezes

    For a quick response...

    I have not seen one of those reports before and I would like to read through it again (and maybe again :) ). To me it shows two problems first off. You have an old version of Internet Explorer and the Windows Update KB925486 is not working. Maybe the update is designed for a latter version of Internet Explorer (if it designed to work on IE).

    First suggestion, check for an update for IE (and install it even if you don't use IE as your browser).

    Look for an uninstall for the Windows Update KB925486 (check Add/Remove Programs). After you update IE, try running Windows Update again.

    ...That was off the top of my head. You could not hurt anything by updating or uninstalling (as opposed to deleting). Check at the Windows Update website for methods of uninstalling that update (although it may start working when you update IE...?). I will try rereading and doing some searching. Bump the thread again if I get sidetracked.

    might suggest that you are "missing" some Windows Update files.

    I believe that is just his log file corresponding to an express install of KB925486 - a critical IE security update issued after Snipe44's last post (Sept 5).

    Since Snipe decided to plug his second memory stick back in and we still have no information regarding this stick and timings, I am going to bounce this back to "still waiting for user information ". I don't do well with guessing and will refrain from further posting absent this information.

    Snipe, you got a debug log at the start of this thread. Check the readout after each blue screen. If they are all the same (or reference one or two files) it may be in the software. That Virtual DJ program may have removed or changed important software or driver files.

    Keep checking the debug logs, but look into Rockster's suggestion about the RAM.
    Rockster, would it be useful to test with RAM from another computer?

    There would be no point to chasing software phantoms if hardware was the source. The debug logs could identify drivers, but if the hardware is incompatible or overheated you will get those types of logs anyway, the debug logs only look at where the software system "stopped" (and that may be where the hardware itself could no longer cope).

    A few other thoughts:
    If VDJ has corrupted the graphics system look at using the nVidia drivers removal tools in the stickies at the start of this forum (and I would suggest running them in Safe Mode, if possible).

    Now that I have reread this thread I see you used a "Thermaltake Silent Cooler ". What compound did you use to install it? Read through the instructions for applying Arcticsilver 5 carefully:

    Trapping bubbles of air in the compound, putting too much on or unevenly can result in an overheated CPU. You need the thinnest, most even layer of compound between the CPU and the heatsink. Applying the thermal compound would be the most important part of building a system. If I find I don't get it right (high CPU temps) I immediately take off the old layer and start again. If you think there may be a problem in that area, reapply the thermal compound (or maybe try installing the stock Intel heatsink to show if this may be the cause). If you think this may be the cause of the problems, testing every other part of the system won't fix it.
