The Domain Profile will still allow them to log on when not connected to the Domain. The log on info is cached on the local machine.

As Scott Smith says, the logon credentials are cached.

Just have the user logon as if they were connected to the Domain. This will preserve their Profile appearance, and allow the use of the offline cache if enabled.

One important point to add: for the profile to be cached, the first time the user logs on, they must be directly connected to the domain (wired or wireless). The laptop will then create a profile for that user, and upload and cache authentication from the server.

So if this is a new PC or a shared laptop that the user is using for the first time, make sure they log on, on site, before the laptop goes off site. Also if two users are to use the laptop off site, they both have to have completed a directly connected log on.

... and (maybe obvious), the domain policy must be the default that allows caching.
