Ask VISTA to recalculate your rating.
You need a rating higher than 1.0 to enable Glass.

You did re-apply an up-to-date video adapter driver as part of your re-installation, correct?

If you change your hardware configuration or just want to double-check your rating you can re-run the System Assessment Tool any time you want, either by typing winsat.exe from the command prompt or by going to the Control Panel and clicking Performance Ratings and Tools under System Maintenance.

well i fixed it with :

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition set to 1 (32-bit DWORD)

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy set to 2 (32-bit DWORD)

i read somewhere that there is also a issue with vista rc2 and navidia 5x00 cards.. which is what i have. could be part of my issue.

    Thanks for the tip, SteveS

(and 2.9 is not bad at all as a score).

SteveS - Thanx for the registry fix for the Aero Glass. RC1 had no problem, but RC2 wouldn't run it without the hack. I have a score of 2.2 - Desktop graphics being the limiting factor.

I don't expect too much right now as it is on my 'smaller' backup machine.

May have to 'relook' a purchase in Jan 07 if the scuttlebutt holds true - 400.00 USD for the 'Ultimate' version. I realize most folks don't have too much use for the Ultimate version, and one of the lesser equipped versions would be fine - but.....

    Mine are:

    Processor: 3.8
    Memory: 4.4
    Graphics: 2.0
    Gaming graphics: 3.2
    Primary hard disk: 4.3

Can I run the glass? I think I am running it, although who knows with this beauty as to what it can do. I am on an IBM Thinkpad T43 Centrino 1.86GHz w/ 1GB of RAM, which runs at 533MHz.

    Thanks...;)

Your scores are quite good other than your graphics adapter. The "graphics" score means Directx9 and Aero Glass suitability. A 2.0 score is I am sure disappointing, but I do not think it would bar the use of Glass. One problem with notebooks with less than 256RAM Video RAM is that Vista can only substitute up to 128 mb system RAM to try and fill to 256. If it finds than even 128 does not bring Video RAM to 256, or there are issues allocating from the system pool, a low ranking will result.

Your gaming graphics score shows a lot of good hardware features. But these are considered seperately from Aero Glass suitability.

As this is a laptop, there is not much you can do I think for the 2 score on desktop graphics.

I have to hope that things will improve when I finally get Vista 1.
My scores at the moment, still on RC1, are :
    Processor 4.1
    Memory 4.9
    Hard disk 5.3
    Graphics 2.0
    3D Gaming 2.6 Thus a final score of 2.0

This is disappointing because I have an nVidia GForce 6200 with 256 MB and Direct X 10.

    Roger:(

I would not hold your breath in the expectation that Vista RTM will see your system any differently :) I suggest that the nVidia GForce 6200 with 256 MB is not quite up to it; I have an nVidia GForce 6600 also with 250 Mb and Directx 9c (nothing fancy or expensive) which I guess outranks a 6200, although I have not studied the hierarchy on nVidia GPU's.

FWIW - my 'scores', with Vista Ultimate RTM installed are .....

    Processor 4.9
    RAM 4.6
    Graphhics - Aero 4.1
    Gaming 4.0
    Disk 5.3

    O'all 4.0

    I don't game so I see no problems :)
