I have the file: axel.dav in EVERY folder. I have tried to delete it but it "regenerates" itself!

I have run AVG antivirus, Stinger, Norton, and XoftSpy 4.22

Nothing has removed it! It likes to hit your "Documents and Settings" folders and has removed almost all of my pictures, movies, and I am beta testing Mircrosoft Office 2007, and it is gone as well. How can I rid this file (axel.dav) and recover lost files?

    Thank You,

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Well I read pretty much every single Google reference to this that I could find. And I'm still not sure exactly what it is.

It's either a really nasty worm, which will destroy your system, (oddly enough, no anti-virus company references) or something related to a recovery which may have been performed?

And the only solution to rid the 'axel.dav' is to save any data and reformat, but, in a couple of instances, the backed up data reinfected things.

So I'm not real sure how to proceed with this, other than perhaps to do some recon and see what sort of info your system gives us with relation to these files.

    I wish I had a conclusive answer, but I don't.

If you like, drop another reply here and we'll get some searching tools to see what we find on your system.

XoftSpy 4.22 found axel.dav, but when I went to "repair" it, I would have to shell out $40. I am on Social Security disability and cannot afford their program.

XoftSpy is not an app I would trust, specifically for this type of behavior. I'd actually be very surprised if it even removed it once you paid for it. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, that is the case with these types of apps.

Let me know if you want to proceed with some file searching, maybe we can pin this down.
