The Motherboard of mySony Vaio was bad, unable to replace it so I purchased compatible ASUS and downloaded all necessary drivers.
Here is the problem:When scrolling up or down on a page there is a ripple effect or wave.I tried updating mouse (Sony Usb) driver, but no updates were available, switched to an other mouse, but nothing seems to fix the problem.
When I looked in Device Mgr.was unable to find type of video card.I opened pc and this is whats on card "Asus rv280leAo62S "cannot get upate.I ran Dx
    and :

The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version "
    Please help.Thank you

Hi, pat609. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

If you have difficulty with Bill's suggestion, I suggest using Belarc Advisor.

Belarc Advisor is a useful application that might help you identify the exact graphics hardware you have in your VAIO.

After downloading the file, run it. It will install and automatically open your web browser (after several seconds) to display lots of details about your computer's hardware and software configuration, including your graphics hardware information. The graphics hardware information will be presented in the "Display" section of your Belarc Advisor report.

    Hi Pat,

Just had the same problem, and it is definitely the video driver at fault. Didn't you get a CD with the new mobo? Asus usually use nVidia for the video I think, and if this is the case for you it is absolutely necessary to remove all the nVidea drivers before installing the new driver.

just ID the exact video setup.

is it on-board video? then get the drivers from asus

is it a video card? then get the driver from the maker.

    Hello,
I contacted Asus ,at first they couldn't identify the Card (color is green)were telling me their cards are orange or red. Finally the tech.gave me a link to drivers "Ati824" in the middle of installation it stopped w/ following error message:
"install cannot continue.Try to setup your display adapter w/standard VGA driver before setup "

I have no clue as to what it means.I did however looked in Device MGR and the Display device is missing.Tried downloading older version of the graphic, but still get same error.

The Tech. here, provided me with a Cd where he downloaded drivers for MOBO but there are only 2 drivers :Sound and Ethernet.I tried contacting them, but haven't gotten back to me.Does anyone know where I could locate and download all drivers for Mobo "ASUS P4P800SE "I remember technician telling me thet he didn't download them from ASUS,but I can't remember where ....
Thank you all for the replies.Pat.

If you install in Safe Mode, you will be use standard VGA drivers.

    Hi, Pat.

I found the drivers for the motherboard model you stated.

Go to the Asus download site and search for P4P800 SE (with a space between P4P800 and SE) in the "Input Model to Searc" (sic) field in the upper left corner of the web page. Then choose "All" in the drop-down field below it and press the "Search" button below that.

That will bring up a link to "P4P800 SE ". Click on that link and you will be presented with a menu for all drivers available for that motherboard.

However, they don't appear to list video/graphics drivers. :(

Is your graphics/video hardware "onboard" (part of the motherboard) or is the graphics hardware a separate graphics/video card that is plugged into a slot on the motherboard?

Safe Mode does not determine what appears in Device Manager. It does however force VGA mode for the graphics adapter.

Intel 865PE is your chipset. Note the "PE ". Your chipset drivers can be found here: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-009241.htm

Your motherboard does not come with a video adapter onboard. A description of your motherboard:
    http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Asustek_MB_ASUS_P4P800SE_865PE_ICH5_RET

Use this identification method to see if the video adapter was made by ATI. If so, given your motherboard, I suspect it is one of the ATI Multi-media video boards that you have:

    Hi, Bill.

I tried that URL and ATI says, "Your support portal session has expired due to inactivity and the requested action has not been completed. ... "

I am not sure what page you tried to direct Pat to. Can you provide an alternate route to get there?

    Hi, Bill.

I tried that link again and still got the "...expired..." note.

The link you posted in your message above this one (post #13) led me to an "AMD Customer Care" page with a troubleshooting article about Quake 4. I could find no mention of "Product Identification" anywhere on the page.

However, I did find a "Product Identification" quick link on the left side of http://ati.amd.com/products/index.html. Thanks for the link name.

Perhaps that is the link you are trying to direct Pat to. :)

    EDIT:
I looked again at the page you linked in post #13 and I DID find a "Product Identification" link in the left menu. Had to scroll a long way down almost to the end to find it. (It wasn't the sixth item as you stated. :)) I am sorry about jumping to my conclusion too quickly. Your "Product Identification" link is different than the one I posted about earlier in this message.

    Hi All,
I wonder if this board is a Radeon RV280-LE-A062S

As I understand it and using the Number RV280-LE-A062S as given, this is a Radeon 9200 "Asus revised" board used in Sony Vaio's. Since this card is separate from motherboard, is it the older card, reused, prior to the motherboard change, and is something either ?Mailman or Pat69? put in themselves? If it is Vaio's original board, perhaps a trip to Sony support site, using the comp Vaio model number, and downloading the appropriate video update will help. NOTE: Asus also has their own drivers so if Sony's aren't correct then perhaps Asus????

Further, a google look at images of Radeon 9200 boards may help in spotting and confirming the board, by site, since it comes in 64mg or 128mg ram varieties:

    Raden images

    -------------------------------------------------
Darn it! Spent way to much time inside the post, while looking into this mysterious display adapter. I see the mystery is solved. Glad to hear you've got it all ironed out.

I think you are correct about the board.
