Netscape 7.2 missing email inbox, accounts and settings.

Good evening on your side. I must have done something wrong. I will try to print all the corespondence and do this again----step by step. Thought I did that but obviously somthing was done incorrectly. Looks like all the data is there in several places but I am just not getting it in the right place. Have created several other profiles in an attemp to be able to experiment with placing different files in the profiles but all come up empty?

Did I do something else wrong? I see an exclamation mark in a triangular sign and that says a bad post?

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be. Actually all you need to do is:

1. Rename the Profiles folder on the C: drive to: XProfiles

2. Copy the most current Profiles folder on the D: drive

3. Paste it into the Mozilla folder on the C: drive.

Once this is done, then we can work on copying files.

 

I have followed the instructions to the best of my abilities.

O.K., that's great! Now, when you open Netscape Mail, what do you see in the left panel, i.e., are your Mail Accounts listed, and are there messages in your folders?

If so, then the next step is to consolidate all mail into the Profile you just copied from D: to C:.

 

There are three profiles. Two are exactly the same as before. The wstewart profile says there is no account and wants me to create one. The default is the same as before with the present files and info.. One that is called default user has only a basic mail account that I created when experimenting.

 

Do you mean three *.slt files that were in the Profiles folder on D:?

Then go ahead and creat the account and give it the exact name as the Mail account in the wstewart Mail folder. Then in the Local directory settings, insert the new path to the Mail Account folder on the C: drive. It will be similar to this:
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\wstewart\*.slt\Mail\pop.isp_name.net

You can do this by clicking on the "Browse" tab to the right of the Local directory field, then browse to the Mail Account folder, which will be the name of your ISP.

Then I would delete that Profile if there is no Mail in it. Get rid of any salted (*.slt) folders that don't contain personal data you wish to keep. The less clutter the better.

P.S. The bold type is only for emphasis...

 

No what I mean is I had made three profiles in an attemp to experiment with moving the files. Additionally I found three .slt folders with what looked like coded folders example: 572jfnzw.slt another folder with 6c8qh8aug.slt and a third folder named ewubgx1x.slt

Confusion seems to be a constant state of mind with me on this. It is just not logical and I think perhaps I will start erasing files that appear to have no kb.

As always I am extremely open to suggeston. Could be I am in over my head.

By all means, if those Mail folders have 0 KB in the folders without an MSF extension then delete the Profile. Eventually you will find the Profile with your saved Mail on the D: drive...

 

Am not making any progress. Think I made too many changes to start with during the panic phase. Now not sure of what folders are susposed to be where and with what name and what order.

This is where your Profiles folder should be on both C: and D:, since Windows XP runs on both drives:
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

Profiles subfolders are:
Profile name
Salted folder

C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\1234abcd.slt

Subfolders in the salted folder:
Chrome
ImapMail
Mail
News

Since you were somehow unable to copy the current Profiles folder from D: to C:, then you can create a new Profile, then copy these files to the new Profile, allowing them to replace the existing files:
abook.mab
bookmarks.html
5678efgh.s
cookies.txt
custom.dic
hostperm.1
key3.db
training.

Then for the Mail, since you aren't sure where it is, then I would go ahead and create new Mail Accounts. Then you can copy the Inbox, and Sent, including subfolders, or any other mail folders from any accounts that have mail in them. You must first rename those files, however.
