My CD drives disapeared

    :confused: ionno one day my cd drives just stopped workin .. so i went to "my computer" and the drives werent there like they are supposed to be can sum 1 please tell me how to fix this thanx :mad:

    Hi,
    First place to look is in Device Manager. If they appear in Device Manager, uninstall them and see if they appear when you reboot.

    If they do not appear in Device Manager, I would check the cabling, that is, pull out and reseat the connectors to the drives and also the connectors to the motherboard. An extra check would be to disconnect the cables, boot into Windows (desktop at least), shutdown and reconnect the cables, that may get them redetected.

    To see if they are being detected by the BIOS, trying booting to the Windows CD or some other boot CD (you may need to set the CD drive as higher in the boot sequence in the BIOS settings, eg. 1. Floppy drive; 2. CD drive; 3. HDD

    Let us know how those go, you may need to make adjustments in Windows.
