    Uninstall SmartBridge.
    You do not need it.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:

Search for PSAPI.DLL and rename it to something else, such as PSAPIOLD.DLL. Do not rename the PSAPI.DLL file in your \\Windows\System32 directory.

    Restart the computer.

The program will find the new PSAPI.DLL in the \Windows\System32 directory and function normally. Users might wish to contact the software vendor website to check for the latest updates.

    Example:

"After searching my system for files with PSAPI.dll in the name, it returned 4 files that were Verizon Online references and one of them had a subheading of SmartBridge. All 4 were an older date than my system/32 PSAPI.dll file. I renamed those 4 as PSAPIOLD.dll. Since each had different subheading names there were no conflicts. I restarted my system and the error message "SmartBridge Alert motivesb.exe Entry point not found was gone. "

I am confused about the SmartBridge posts

Bill, you say you do not need SmartBridge and can uninstall it while the post below gives an entire procedure how to "fix it." I don't know what to do now.

I also upgraded to IE7 and here is the message that I get when I reboot - "SmartBridge Alerts "“ MotiveSB.exe "“ Entry Point The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW. could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL. "

Which do I do? Uninstall SmartBridge, which would mean going into my Program Files and deleting it because it is not in my Add or Delete Programs in my Control Panel or go thru that long instruction that is in the post shortly after yours?

Someone please advise and thank you SO MUCH for the help!

See, this is why I am confused about the SmartBridge message.

Bill, Like I said, I am very confused. Help, help! I upgraded to IE7. It says that my SmartBridge updated with errors when I go to update it in my Program Files. In your posts, first you say uninstall SmartBridge, then you say to go through this procedure to fix the error message

"SmartBridge Alerts "“ MotiveSB.exe "“ Entry Point The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW. could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL. "

that I get when I reboot my pc. I am soooooooo confused! Please advise this confused woman!

    Thanks so much,
    Angell

After installing IE7 you may get an error message that says something like:

The procedure entry point 'GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be allocated in the dynamic link library PSAPI.dll'

This is an error to do with some "broadband helper" software your ISP has installed on your computer and is easy to fix:

    To work around this error:

    Winkey+E
Navigate to the installation location for SmartBridge which should be something like:
    \Program Files\your ISP Help\SmartBridge

Now find the file PSAPI.DLL and rename it to something like PSAPIOLD.DLL

    Now reboot the computer.

The program will find the new PSAPI.DLL in the C:\Windows\System32 directory and function normally...

    In the alternative:

    Start, Search, PSAPI.DLL
For any file name PSAPI.DLL found that is NOT found in the folder \Windows\System32

Right click on the found file and delete it.
    Reboot and test

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

    Worked for me too!

:) Thanks, Bill. The psapi.dll file I had to rename was found in my folder:
    C:\Program Files\SBC Self Support Tool\SmartBridge

I have seen computers with this issue with five different versions of the file! The only one you want is the one in \Windows\System32, although those found in the DLLCache, \i386 and \Windows\$KBxxxxxxx$ folders are okay.

    Best wishes.
