When moving a bookmark by highlighting and dragging it to new location within bookmarks, my cpu goes into stress. In Windows Task Manager my "Sys Idle Process" reports 50% usage and "Netscape" reports 50% usage. The effect is cpu hangs and does not response to any commands for up to two minuets. At times I must "End the process "(Netscape) in Windows Task Manager. This happens whether doing the move within "Managing Bookmarks or just highlighting & dragging and relocating the bookmark from the "Bookmarks drop down screen ".

My CPU is a Intel Pentium D 830 800mhz Dual core processor
My operating system is Windows XP Pro SP2.
My motherboard is ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe.
My memory is 1GB OCZ Gold Series SDRAM DDR2 677 (PC25400).
My video card is eVGA 128MB Getforce 6600GT PCI Express.

    Netscape ver is 8.1.2

Thunderbird v1.0.7, McAfee antivirus, & ZoneAlarm v 6.5.737 are the only programs I have running.

    Is there a fix?

    thank you
    denny

    Denny,

Netscape 8.1.2 Release Notes list this in their system requirements:

    Recommended Configuration:
    1 GHz processor
    256 MB RAM

Pretty sure what's happening is a bug which has been reported, and started with earlier versions. When checking AOL's Netscape Forum, I don't see Bug reports listed, but as Netscape 8 is based on Firefox 1.0 source code, I do know similar problems were reported on the older Firefox, with an upsurge of CPU usage.

I also see that other users on the AOL Forum are reporting high CPU usage as well. I don't have the browser installed, since it is now owned by AOL, and no longer a Mozilla product, so I have no way to compare with you, on the problem.

Arranging bookmarks has been a pain, often reported, beginning with 8.1, and not fixed in 8.1.2. It used to take up to thirty seconds to drag and drop a single bookmark with 8.1. Solutions: stop using 8.1.x and/or do not arrange bookmarks. I don't see that AOL will do anything much to fix it.

Thanks for the reply... My error in the setup... My processor is a Intel Pentium D 830.... 3GHz 800MHz FSB Dual core processer. More than enought to meet their system requirements. But that aside.. looks like I need to switch to a different browser.
    Thanks for the responce..

    Denny,

Since you are using TB for Mail, then give Firefox 1.5.0.7 a whirl. Firefox 2.0 is due out any time now, so you might want to wait... or not!

If you are using TB 1.0.7, then it is a good idea to move up to 1.5.0.7. You won't lose any of your Profile settings. I would also suggest a clean install...

    Denny,

You can copy the Netscape 8 bookmarks.html file to your Firefox salted folder, and opt to replace the existing (empty) bookmarks file. A simply copy/paste... :)
