    I'm presently using IE 6 w/a screen resolution of 1600x1200, & I have all 3 IE toolbars (+1) packed onto 1 line with room to spare. From what I've read, it's not possible to do this w/IE 7. Can it be done w/Firefox?

    I don't like to differ with Ramona, but the answer is a qualified "yes ". Right-click anywhere in the toolbar area (except the address or search windows) and select "Customize ". Then, you'll be able to drag nearly everything onto a single toolbar. It doesn't seem to be possible to get rid of the gray area that appears between the toolbar and the tab bar, however (see screenshot).

    User,

    My apologies, and I learned something new today. Go to this website for the instructions on how to consolidate all to one Toolbar:
    http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_6.html

    This is really cool, and I've configured my own Toolbars into one.

    One other detail:
    If you also want to remove the "GO" button, you can add the following code to your userChrome.css file, located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.profilename\chrome

    If you haven't created the userChrome.css file, then rename the userChrome-example.css file to userChrome.css.

    At the end of the renamed file, leave at least one space, then add the code:
    Code:
     #go-button-stack, .search-go-button-stack {
      display: none !important;
    }

    Humnnnnnnnnnnn!!! --- I've gotten into the habit of keeping up with the forum and this question about customizing the Tool Bar got my attention and just may have put me on the path of switching from the Seamonkey suite to FF and TB.

    I tired the same procedure on Thunderbird which Ramona provided on her last post and the instructions provided for Firefox works the same with TB.

    The extra screen space created in TB sort of eliminates my dislike of TB having the attachments window on the bottom of the screen.

    Also discovered there is a Mail Icon in FF which keeps you form using a drop down window which saves a couple of mouse moves.

    The FF instructions tells you to use no TEXT and Small Icons. -- But, I tried switching back too have large Icons with Text and it does work but, jams things together too much on the one toolbar to be practical.

    My two cents:..... Ray

    Ray,

    Thanks for the heads up on TB, and the ability to use one Toolbar.

    In Firefox, I too went back and changed Icons | small icons, to Text Only and that worked too. However, the text was not evenly aligned.

    BTW, there is no Mail icon in Firefox 2.0, however this extension is recommended for that purpose, on MozillaZine:

    Get Mail-2.5
    For Firefox 2.0 Only!
    Restores the mail functions to Firefox 2.
    Uses 24px & 16px icons and a "Tools" menu entry (below Add-ons).
    Uses the original keyboard shortcut for "New Message" CTRL + M

    *Can be used with "Toolbar Extras" to enhance it's mail functions.

    Thank you, Ramona. Now, I am ready to make FF2.0 my default (after testing it some more).
    I am taking it back. The New Message part , which I had before, works, but the Read Mail part does not work, neither at the icon nor at Tools|Get Mail|Read Mail

    Wow - many thanks to everyone who posted. This issue (& the fact that IE 6 has given me everything I really need in a web browser) has been preventing me from trying Firefox. But now, w/ the release of IE 7 (which I really don't like), Firefox 2, & this new info, I'm ready. Thanks again.:)

    Westside,

    The GetMail extension works here for both Read Mail and New Message. The GetMail icon in the "Customize" option works with the extension. Could this be an OS thing?

    EDIT:

    O.K., on another Forum Westside confirmed that it is a Windows XP problem, and refers to this extension which works with XP:

    Ramona,
    I don't know what fixed the problem, because the Default Mail Utility was not working at all, even with FF1.5.0.7. I checked the Options settings of my TB1.5.0.7, and, sure enough, Mail had become unchecked, so I did not have anything as default. Very Weird!
