Does anyone know of any Software Program that can be used to calculate what speed a vehicle in an accident was doing at the time of impact?

    Many Thanks.

Do you have a Huge Budget for this?

If there is such a program available to typical pc users you'd have to know little things like the weight of the vehicle involved, road surface conditions, wind speeds, skid marks/length of skid marks, was the other vehicle moving and if so how fast etc etc.

    Thank you for the info.

What led to my question can best be summarized as follows.

Our car, a Ford Tempo, which weighed approximately 3,000 lbs and was moving very slowly, having just stopped and then started to proceed through an intersection, when it was struck with such force by a Van weighing approximately 4,500 Lbs, that it pivoted on it's axis and the rear passenger-side corner hit the side of the Van doing considerable damage to it, yet even after this, we still ended up approximately 60 feet in front of, and almost directly in the direction of travel of the van, indicating that that vehicle certainly must have been travelling at well in excess of the posted speed limit of 50 KPH.

There also were no skid marks, so it would appear that the driver of the Van certainly could not have had his 'eyes on the road', and consequently hit us at full speed, but, then again, and this is something I am not sure of, skid marks may not have been present if the van was fitted with an Anti Lock Braking System.

Regardless, I am attaching a diagram of the accident scene, and would appreciate an estimate of the Van's speed, by someone who is qualified to do this.

    Many Thanks.
