I would like to burn a dvd that can be played on a regular dvd player and viewed on a TV. It would be made of 300 jpeg images (photos) plus a soundtrack made up of a series of cuts from various CDs. The images could be in a simple slide-show say 2 seconds per image. But could the time per image be varied, say 2 seconds for one and 4 seconds for others? I have NERO 4 and a trial version of Ashampoo Burning Studio 6. I'm willing to buy new software to complete this project. Any suggestions? Thanks, Rob

Not to confuse my question above, but it also occurs to me that maybe Powerpoint may also work, but I would need to run presentation from a laptop, not a dvd player? I don't own powerpoint, and have never done a powerpoint presentation, and this would only be an option if burning a DVD is impossible. Thanks, Rob

Download a trial of Nero 7 (you are a bit - a lot - behind the times :D) - I think what you want to achieve can be done in Nero Vision, part of Nero 7.

Thanks Pete. Do you happen to know if this can also be done with Nero 6? Some reviewers say that Nero 7 is too much. There are a lot of places selling versions of Nero 6 for small dollars. Thanks, Rob

Can't say Rob, I used 5.5 for many years and aquired an OEM 6 with a DVD burner and had to upgrade immediately to 7 for it to recognise my other burner.

However a review of 6 here

    Nero 7

After reading all the incredibly negative reviews on Amazon about Nero 7, I decided to try it anyway. I believe that it will work eventually, but I have had the following experiences: 1. Frequent crashes, and freeze-ups. This requires frequent re-booting. I feel like I'm back to Windows 98. 2. I'm using 10 megapixel images. They don't look as sharp on the big tv screen as I thought they should, but that may be due to the dvd medium and my TV ( a 57" Hitachi 57F510 projection tv with "superfine" picture quality and 1280 lines of horizontal resolution.) Nero 7 reduces these images to, speaking from memory, 480 x 720 pixels ? Is there a way to increase this resolution? 3. I have about 300 images. The program will only allow 99 images in a chapter. Why is this? Is there a way to include all 300 in one slide show? The program forces you to run four slide shows back to back. The sound track can't be continuous through these 4 shows. It gets chopped at the end of each chapter.
You need to make 4 soundtracks separately, one for each chapter. This is after one day...Am I missing something?

So instead of one continuous slide show, with one continuous sound track, you get four slide shows, with a sound track that either has gaps of silence or tracks that get chopped off at the end of each chapter. The program has an option to vary the time the slides are on screen so that they match the music, but now you have to do that 4 times instead of just once.

It seems like such a simple problem, Make a high quality, high resolution slide show with cd quality sound track. I can probably eventually do this with Nero 7, but it sure isn't simple or obvious or BUG-FREE.

I must say that I have had no problems with running Nero 7 - at least for those elements that I use, but I do recall coming across the 99 slide limitation and thought - why??

I suggest you abandon that trial and try a trial of ProShowGold as Hawk22 posted. This is professional type software aimed at propessional presentations and, from my colleagues in the (amateur) photographic world, I know that it is the preferred program for what you want to achieve.

Free Trial here and program overview here

I am away now for 2 weeks, so please do not think I am ignoring you if I fail to respond to your posts :)
