Maybe I have not read up enough, but are OE and IE finally separated?

They were always seperate to the extent that you could remove OE without affecting IE. For example, this would completely remove OE under XP:

Go to Start > Run, then type in this and run it. (this is one Line)

    RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

    Done.

    --------------

The IE and OE groups are seperate -- in offices, personnel, timetables, product plans. Most of the OE development time has been on VISTA and Windows Live Mail.

The Outlook Express that will be included in Windows Vista promises to be a great advance over current versions. A new and less confusing name (Windows Mail), a far more stable and robust file system, a powerful and award-winning junk-mail filter, a completely new face on the Windows Address Book, and built-in access to the Microsoft public news server are just a few of the changes we will see.

For the present, try the Beta of Microsoft Live Mail: http://ideas.live.com/programpage.aspx?versionId=5d21c51a-b161-4314-9b0e-4911fb2b2e6d
