I´ve added the spanish language and spanish keyboard to my WIN XP via Regional and Language Options, and the Language Bar shows up just fine. I then go to my Word 2002 and switch language under Tools to Spanish, but when I type a spanish word with accents, such as manana, the accent over the n doesn´t show.
I know I could go to symbols, etc., and get the accent, but there must be a better way when one is typing an entire document in Spanish.
Please, someone, tell me what I´m missing.

    aks ...

I can't answer your question, but I can help you with your problem. For years I've been using a free program called AllChars, which I load at startup. When you need a special character, such as ñ, just tap Ctrl + ~ + n, in sequence. Something similar for ¡ (Ctrl + ! +!) and ¿ (Ctrl + ? + ?).

The program provides easy access to all sorts of special characters, such as ¢, €, £, ½, ¼, ¾, °, ±, ÷, ©, "¡, and just about any other found in the character tables. If you can't remember a particular key combination (always Ctrl followed by two other characters), Ctrl + h + h opens AllChar's Help window where they're all shown.

AllChars doesn't need to be installed; it will run from anywhere ... I keep a special folder for programs which don't require installation, but you could just as easily create an AllChars folder in My Programs.

    HTH.

    Spanish Accents

There is no need to change your keyboard settings to Spanish in order to use Spanish special characters; you just need to change it to United States-International.

Go to Start "“ Control Panel "“ Regional and Language Options "“ Languages "“ Details "“ Add "“ select United States-International "“ OK.

Remove the Spanish language if you still have it installed, close all open windows. In some cases, you may need to reboot Windows.

For any accent, just pres the" apostrophe (next to enter, you wont see nothing yet), then pres the letter you want. If you need Spanish question mark, pres your right (it won’t work with the left one) and then the original character. For this symbol ñ = Alt + n.

    Thank you

Thank you both, Jim and Kerberos. Probably both solutions would work, but Kerberos, I tried yours first, and I'm typing away like a native. Thanks so much.

    Hi Alice,

I'd never have come up with the solution Kerberos provided, and I'm pleased that it works for you. I'll stick with AllChars, though, because of the easy access it provides to so many non-US keyboard characters.
