    Vertical lines with ASrock motherboard.
Details: I recently bought an ASrock P4i65G motherboard and installed a Radeon 9600 XT.

When I boot up the POST screen has green vertical lines approx 1cm apart. When I get into Windows XP all 3D graphics are distorted and have block vertical lines in the Control centre.

I have tried every driver from 6.2 to 6.9 but the problem still persists. I contacted ASrock but they said to contant ATI to see if the problem had appeared before.

The video card is new so am I hoping it is not a damaged GPU :(

Sometimes, stuff just doesn't work - sounds to me like you have a questionable video card.

I'd agree with Rockster. Visual artifacting usually means a defective video card.

If the card was not compatible with the board (and I've heard of a few people actually having this problem with an Asrock Dual-Sata2 with both AGP and PCI-E slots) "hopefully" it would simply not work at all instead of working in a defective manner.

Did you uninstall the drivers for the previous graphics adapter? My suuggestion is to boot into Safe Mode. Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall anything related to the graphics adapter. Go to Device Manager and uninstall any Display Adapters. Reboot. When the New Hardware wizard runs, let it seach on the drivers CD that came with the 9600XT card.

    I missed this part:
I was working on a problem that occurs during/after Windows has loaded.

You should not get problems before Windows loads.

Just maybe, a BIOS setting (but if you choose the wrong setting, you may have a blank screen at startup and need to reset the CMOS).

Graphics card or motherboard? I had graphics incompatibility and wished I had insisted on a new (brand of) motherboard. The incompatibility is still there with similar graphics cards. (It took more than 3 months to exchange the graphics card because it kept testing OK). ATI graphics was exchanged for nVidia.

Complete compatibility...motherboard brand of graphics card. Asus motherboard with Asus graphics card, MSI or Gigabyte card with MSI or Gigabyte motherboard.
