Lets put aside the RegSeeker problem at the moment as the other apps are far more vital to the system, even if the problem is related. I'd just remove RegSeeker for now.

Remove the icons for the WinWord, reboot make new ones, see if that helps. Perform that with any other icons giving you troubles.

I need to stare at some other fixes for the webpage, I know there area couple of other reg fixes, just need to determine which one we need.

    I deleted the RegSeeker folder.

I deleted the MS Word icon from the Desktop, rebooted, installed a new Word icon. Clicked on it, got the same Windows Installer notice, etc., so no improvement there.

I'm not sure what you mean about the webpage. My Desktop seems OK for now, if that's what you meant.

One other thing is different now than it was a few days ago. When I open, say, My Computer, then Drive C:\, then Program Files, only the most recent one keeps a tab open in the Tray. So whenever I want to go back a step or two, the tabs aren't there to click on as they used to be and as I want. I don't see anything in TweakUI about that, either. Suggest anything?

Oh, guess I misread the desktop problem, glad we got one problem solved.

It's possible, I suppose that Word got corrupted somehow (tho this is certainly an odd occurance from malware).

Maybe you can try a repair of Word as described on this page.

I'll ask some other researchers to see if they have come across this type of problem before, it's a first for me.

MS Word icon problem solved! I don't know how it happened, but the icon on my Desktop somehow got misdirected. I did a Search and found the command line WINWORD.EXE and its icon in 2 different partitions. Deleted the existing icon from my Desktop, put the other one on, and it opened the program just fine. So that problem is over with.

The problem with RegSeeker is the only problem remaining that I'm aware of. Ideas on that?

Edit: I also just now solved the problem with successively opened windows not leaving tabs down in the Tray. I'd looked in TweakUI for the fix. Wrong place. Tools/Folder Options/Browse folders > Open each folder in its own window is the correct place. So that works right now, too. Apparently several things got reconfigured by those bugs. The RegSeeker problem still wants solving, though.

Ahh, glad to hear things got sorted out.

As for RegSeeker, I'd start with fresh DLs and be sure to delete all older folders, see if that helps, rebooting after deletions.

I deleted the RegSeeker folder, downloaded and installed a new copy of RS 1.50, rebooted, shut off my modem and router and all AV and anti-spyware programs, started Task Monitor (it's the only way I can turn off RS after it freezes), then ran RS. Same as before, it did the scan OK but upon starting to analyze it shot the CPU usage up to 100% and everything froze.

Still curious why RS was being troublesome, I ran AV scans with both NAV and AVG on the NAV, Lavasoft (Ad-Aware), Spybot, and ZoneAlarm folders. All came out clean.

I discovered another wrinkle this morning. When I turned on my browser (Netscape 7.1), a window opened asking me if I wanted to make NS my default mail application. It always had been in the past, but apparently the recent bugs got into another area. I corrected the NS setting.

I read all the posts in the forum your link led to, and several mentioned problems with RS 1.50 but theirs are different from mine. Maybe a less troublesome version will be released soon. I learned one thing from those posts: RS is produced by a French company. That explains everything. It's a French conspiracy! ;)

I looked in my F:\ partition for a copy of RS v1.45 and found one. Ran it, and this time it went through the scan and got as far as finding 44 items, not just 13 like my earlier 1.45 attempts, before everything froze. Not sure why the change. Running it from F:\ rather than from C:\? Or our bug fixes got something partially out of the way?
