Hi, superkoncept. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

I Googled "The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open " and came up with over 200 results. Perhaps one of those links will help.

Perhaps you can more quickly narrow down the cause by looking in Event Viewer after booting to see what errors might be listed there. Event Viewer can be accessed as follows:

Start > Run > eventvwr.msc > OK button

If you double-click on an event that indicates a problem (or right-click on the event and select "Properties "), that will open the "Event Properties" window for that event. You can use the button below the up/down arrow buttons in the Event Properties window to copy the information to your clipboard.

If you want to paste that information into a forum message for more assistance from us, right-click in the message editing section and select "Paste ".

While in the Event Properties window, you can use the up/down arrow buttons to display event properties for other events in the Event Viewer list.

here's the application event:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1517
Date: 10/16/2006
Time: 1:37:26 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: SKYFIRE2
Description:
Windows saved user SKYFIRE2\Kalvin Sie registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

and here's the system event:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: b57w2k
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4
Date: 10/16/2006
Time: 1:38:11 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SKYFIRE2
Description:
Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected.
Data:
0000: 00 00 00 00 02 00 56 00 ......V.
0008: 00 00 00 00 04 00 05 80 .......€
0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0018: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........

there were two warning sign icons there from the event viewer (one under application and one under system -- i.e as pasted above)

thanks in advance!

I might guess that you have network connection that is not connected at the time of shutdown. The system is trying to save settings to the registry across the network connection, but the connection is not there.

Maybe you have set the system to map a drive across a network. Windows wants to save the settings for the mapped drive, but it is not connected on the network.

See Help and Support for "drive mapping ". You may just need to a change a setting to stop Windows from saving the mapped drive at shutdown.

User Profile Hive Cleanup Service - read the bumph and give it a try.
