I'm buying a computer and I will be using it mostly for video editing. I would like to get people's opinion on what chip would have the best perfomance for this; the Intel Pentium 4 or the AMD Athlon XP?

    Thank You.

    Which Proccessor

Looking at various reviews it does not seem to matter which you use as the other components of the pc can also affect performance such as the amount of Ram , the graphics card type and cache size also the hard disk can also affect performance so it is more a case of checking reviews and making your choice

I have been running AMD boards at home for a while. Cost less and I can't see any downside whatever.

Currently, the newest, highest powered Pent4 has finally beat an AMD - at higher cost and only with the right supporting chips. A safe, stable bet is on AMD. No matter what or when you buy, there will always be an incremental improvement on the horizon. Basically, combine both previous responses. You must consider the whole system, and balance in cost. The newest and best that costs 5 grand today will be 2 grand tomorrow and 800 bucks in a year.

The last intel chip I owned was a P75. Since then I have had 233 and a 900 @ the house and 5 or 6 work computers all running AMD.

Buy an AMD chip and use the money you save to buy more RAM or a better video card. You can't get an AMD from D*ll or gateway. So unless you want to build your own I would suggest ECS They built my last work machine (see below for its specs) and I am very happy with its quality/performance.:D
