another problem with xp

    okay not that big of an issue but I have a dell dimension 2400 that was given to me, it has the oem on the side of the case on the official sticker however I dont have the windows disc, can I use any windows cd along with my oem# to reinstall windows?

    If you're talking about the sticker with the MS product key, the answer is "yes ".

    I've done this a number of times with IBM/Lenovo laptops that came with XP Pro pre-installed. I like IBM laptops, but don't like the way they set them up so, in each case, I've formatted the hard drive and reinstalled XP Pro from the OEM CD (pretty much plain vanilla XP Pro) that came with my desktop computer. Works like a charm ... just use the info from the sticker on the laptop.

    YES that is exactly what I meant, thank you. I think I will use my copy of xp home w/sp2 and just replace the wpa.dbl file in the newly formatted pc and if I am correct I dont have to activate?

    If you cd is an OEM cd it should work. You can't mix OEM and Retail info.
