System crashes on restart & BSOD

Hi guys, need some advice here, please. I am running XP Prof SP2, when I try to install anything and I am asked to restart: any of the following happens:

1. Cannot access desktop, icons or taskbar.
2. Task bar does not load fully nor do icons show on desktop correctly.
3. BSOD
4. Mouse does not function, I have to take out and reinsert USB connector.
5. Welcome screen comes up and computer stops responding.

Last night I was having problem with my router so being a smart **s thought I would go and find update for USB, I mistakenly downloaded a file called SIS-USBdetect.exe. When I was told to restart after clicking the icon that is when the trouble started. So I did an XP repair ( fine) until I tried to install Daemon and on the restart trouble trouble. I have just done another repair and am afraid to touch it.
I did see another post similar to my problems and the advice was about Blaster worm, Could this be the problem??

What Have I done wrong????????

Can't remember for sure but I don't think the blaster worm caused all those problems...mostly it may have been the restart and that was without warning.
What info does your BSOD give you?

If I were you, I would boot up in Safe Mode and see if any of your problems are carrying over there. Then, while still in safe mode, I would run a full virus scan with an up to date virus signature...no more than three days old as of the start of your problem.

If things are virus free you could do a system restore (if you have that enabled).

Then you can try more if those two things go well and try booting up normally.

 

Hi Peter, I cannot find a dmp file. Reading the Ms documentation I think one is only set up if there is actual errors to record. When I got my BSOD there was no error message judt the blue screen.

Hi guys I think the problem may have been Daemon Tools SPTD. I went into Safe Mode and went to a previous restore point and have had no problems since. Also deleted Daemon Tools.
