I have a problem with XP in that it wants to ALWAYS use Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default and, yes, I went to Control Panel, Open With, and changed the default. It doesn't matter if the image is a proprietary image for a specific program or a TIF/JPG image. I can't get rid of it. I have other programs I NEED to use for these images, not Microsoft's garbage. HELP.

    From the link below---

    User Interface Tweaks

Disable Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
By default, Windows XP opens all picture files (gif,jpg,...) with the included Windows Picture and Fax Viewer no matter what other picture viewers you have installed. To disable the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, unregister shimgvw.dll. This can be done from command prompt:
    regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

Have you any recommendations for a decent viewer? I find the ones I have used quite slow. Imaging was quite good really but the image size wasn't configurable.

In fact, with the good crop options and all, Iview is getting even better. And still (as noted) free.

Also, I set Iview to deal with all image files and it nicely made itself my default picture viewer. No registry tweak needed.

Change file associations. Run a search for that on this website for your operating system.
