IJ've been away for a day and half so now back to business. I am not sure how to back everything up yet and I don't have a lot of confidence in pursuing consumer central's ideas until I do a little more reading. Will keep u advised. Thanks for your interest.

Hi Charlesvar and Jrosenfeld

After following as many of your instructions as I was capable of/or felt confident enough to do; I contacted the original windows seller of sp2. After discussion (amicable), I returned my pc to the shop for inspection. The corrupted files were a result of several things including conflict with old files that were salvaged form ny 98se collapse a year ago. The final solution was to uninstall/reinstall sp2 and format the hard drive and the net result was completely satisfactory at no cost to me. One oversight was that I had forgotten to save all my email addresses so I've got a bit of a project ahead of me. Thank-you for your knowledge, patience and perseverance.
