Active X

I opened an account to show my photos on the internet and near the end of the application, it said to download active X and that's when warnings start to pop up and things being said like, if it's not absolutely necessary to not do this. What's the big deal about Active X?

Bubba--I have ActiveX control settings at Disable in IE Tools|Internet Options|Internet|Custom Level. But since some pages, such as Windows Updates, require ActiveX controls to run in order to work, I put the URL's of those sites into IE Tools|Internet Options|Trusted Sites. Of course, this assumes I do "trust" the sites.
