    Hi All

Any one running IESPYAD, The last update I see is July 10th.

Is this correct? or am I getting a old site page?

Just seems like a long time for his updates, normally it's like once a month?

Geri--I guess you know that SpywareBlaster also offers a list of sites to put into the Restricted Sites. The list is not as large as IESpyAds, but it might add some new ones since the update to IESpyAds is a little overdue.

    Hi Jim
Yes I knew, But I have that disabled according to IESPYADS web site,

SpywareBlaster & Spybot Search & Destroy

"If you use IE-SPYAD in conjunction with SpywareBlaster or Spybot Search & Destroy, you should be aware that there is considerable overlap between the Restricted sites lists maintained by these three programs. As a result of that overlap, you may encounter minor issues while updating IE-SPYAD. See the ReadMe for IE-SPYAD for more information and advice.

My recommendation is to use but ONE program to add sites to your Restricted sites zone. Using multiple programs to add sites to your Restricted sites zone leads only to overlap, conflicts, and confusion without necessarily increasing your level of protection. "

    Thanks Jim

Geri--I was aware of the IESpyAds warning about SpywareBlaster, but I have ignored it and run both.
I install IESpyAds's lists manually. I install SWB's lists automatically ( "Enable all protection ".).
IESpyAds' normal procedure for installing a new list is to first uninstall the old from the Restrict Sites list. I have always assumed that would also uninstall whatever URL's were common to those on the SpywareBlaster list. Then the IESpyAds install procedure would reinstall most if not all of those URL's that had been uninstalled from the SpywareBlaster list assuming they were still common to the two lists.
I do not know if SWB goes through the same uninstall/install procedure, but I have never been aware of duplicates in the Restricted Sites list.

P.S. I may be all wet about the above or this idea, too. Sometimes, after I have done the IESpyAds' uninstall procedure but before installing the new, I have a look at the Restricted Sites list. The URL's remaining would seem to indicate the additional URL's added by SWB. They are not removed by IESpyAds.

    Hi Jim

That's interesting, I have never looked. Maybe we can get TeMerc to ask Eric for some insight on that.

I also ran both for years, with no problems (That I know of). then I was directed to that statement from IESPYAD's web site.
So I assumed that he would know more about conflicts between the programs then I would, so I disabled SWB's restricted sites.

Lets see if Tom can clarify some of this?

    HEEEY TOM????

I have seen comments made about Spybot's restricted site information being change(I think) when one updates either SB or IE-SPYADs, but I cannot just now find a link. I'll try and look tonite. Most have been over at the DSLR boards.

I used to use Spybot and SB also, until I realized as Eric states the overlap and then once you look at the numbers, IE-SPYADs has a far greater database in it, even if you combine both Spybot and SB together. So to me it makes more sense to just not use Spybot and SB restricted site protections.

If you keep a secure browser and are careful where you surf, a long period of time in between IE-SPYADs updates is really no worry. I know I don't worry about it. But then I also don't run any malware apps either anymore on this box, haven't scanned for anything in ages.

I go to the same sites pretty much 99.9% of the time.

Note: If you use IE-SPYAD, Spybot Search & Destroy, SpywareGuide Blocklist, SpywareBlaster, a hosts file or any combination of those, please check all protections and re-enable as needed whenever any of the aforementioned is updated.

How fortuitous--a new IESpyAds just out today!! :)
The following are excerpts from the Download page:
"This Restricted sites list is based in part on info from:
the latest updates to well-known anti-crapware programs such
as SpyBot Search & Destroy, Ad-aware, and SpywareBlaster ".

But the latter paragraph (and the "minor issues) do not seem to be explained in more detail.
This implies the other lists may be superfluous, but only if Eric Howes includes all the sites in those lists in IESpyAds.
Thanks for the info about the latest IESpyAds, TeMerc.
