ok for those who helped me before may know I was having problems with my SATA Controller from my mobo. i got a new one that is working fine and i have windows installed and all. after installing my drivers for everything i proceeded to set up my network because i am on a college campus, for some reason i am unable to get my LAN connection visable. the only thing that i am able to see is two 1394 connections. before i just had to set up a small office/home network and poof it was there, i just cant get a LAN connect no matter what i do. help

Well if you are connecting through the Campus network, you will have a Network Manager who can check your settings and see if you have set the connection up correctly.

The 1394 connections are NOT your lan connections!
A 1394 controller-adapter is not an ethernet adapter.

It is likely that the drivers for your ethernet adapter are not installed. Check the Device manager and see if it is listed under Network Adapters.

FYI, a 1394 adapter is a Firewire adapter. (looks like usb port)

well before i saw 2 1384 connections and had to add a new connection for my LAN to show up, if anyone has the steps required for this to happen please say so. the computer has a history for doing this even with the drivers installed (which they are) and under device manager only the 1384 connections show up under network adapters...

If Device manager does not list a network adapter then: (in no order)
    1. you don't have an ethernet port/card/adapter
    2. you do have one but it is not working (hardware broken)

If the hardware exists, and even if widows cannot identify what it is, then Device Manager will at least display 'unknown device ". If Device manager does not list "unknown device" or does not list an ethernet device, then the device does not exist or it is a broken device, even if integrated into the motherboard.
