I used Spybot-Search & Destroy to scan my Windows xp home edition and spybot reports Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.FirewallDisableNotify. Should I ask Spybot to fix this?

    Carl,
    welcome to WindowsBBS ... :) ... !

Spybot S&D detects that the notification in Windows Security Center has been disabled (you don't get that red shield in the notification area). If you yourself have not disabled the notifications, you are now aware that "something" has. You can either let Spybot S&D fix it or ignore it (if you yourself have disabled the notifications). It works as it is supposed to.

    Hi Christer,

I am a bit confused. I do use 3rd party firewall and I did disable Windows Firewall; but I did not disable any notifications. As a matter of fact, this computer is on auto updates feature of Windows xp and I think I've gotten all the Windows security updates (the last one was KB920685 on 9-13-2006).

    Hi ctm007

Because you disabled W/F Just set Spybot to ignore this.

There are some infections that would disable W/F so they made Spybot to detect that it is turned off.

Disabling the Windows FireWall will not implement any changes to the Windows Security Center notifications. Disabling the Windows FireWall would actually trigger a notification, unless a third party FW is installed and running.

You change the notifications in Control Panel > Security Center
