I am trying to reinstall XP using the cd I always do. It is not scratched or dirty. Setup stops at the same files each time and then installs some and I have to skip others. The ram hasn't changed from the previous time I installed. Can I copy the file sonto another partion and install from there?

The cd drive could be dirty.

I've expereinced this problem myself quite a few times. I always make it a habbit to create an image of the XP cd on my HD, so that if I have issues with the drives, I can always burn a new, clean cd to test it with. Cause often times its the CD Drive.

On rare occasions it will be the RAM going bad, or the HD going bad.
In either case your going to have to do diagnostics on thou.

Yes, If I remember correctly, you can. Copy the folder i386 from the CD to D: (the other partition). Restart the computer using a Win9X start disk. At the A: command prompt type in: D: > enter, at the D: command prompt type in: cd i386 > enter, at the D:\i386 command prompt type in: winnt > enter. Now, the installation should commence.
