has anyone seen lately where the lavasoft ad-aware free version when opening the program says the defs. are out of date but when you try to download the updates it tells you there are no newer definitions ??? have been getting this for a while now. even tried the defs update file from lavasofts web site and then upzipped the file in the program file folder for lavasoft. still comes up and says defs are out of date.

    any suggestions ???

My defs file is SE1R124 19.09.2006

When I open the program I get the defs are 15 days old. When I click update, it begins but is stopped short and says my defs are up to date. It has been doing this for several days now.

You are not alone.......How about you BOBBO?

Edit: BTW, I'm using SE Plus Version (paid) so it isn't just free stuff.

BOBBO we were posting at the same time.

I found the same thing today. I think it's because their last update was on Sept. 19, which was 15 days ago. Apparently a tripwire of sorts is built into the program that pops up that message if we haven't updated within that timespan. Until a new update is released, that's what we'll see each time we check. It's their "problem," not ours.

Lavasoft site says: [September 28th, 2006] SE1R124 19.09.2006 is now available, new definition file for Ad-Aware SE.

I remember a while back that updates were far between but lately they got more often. I guess someone is on vacation?

If you click on the Gear on the AdAware opening window, you will go to General Options. There you can set the number days after which you will be notified that your definitions are "considered" outdated. Default setting is 14 days. Since AA has not offered any new reference files since Sept. 19, the notice is erroneous. You can always change the number of days before you get a notice. I just did.

glad i'm not the only one seeing this problem. if lavasoft said they have a new update dated 9-28-06 they are lying. the defs.zip on lavasofts web site is the one i downloaded just before i started this posting. still says updates are 15days old and even after unzipping the lastest from their site and over writting the defs file in program folder. honestly in all the years ive used this program i have never seen this happen before. like Bmoore1129 this guy still must be on vacation.

guess all we can do is wait for the vacation person to get back on the job...greg

BMoore1129--Are you sure you got the October 5 reference files?
I see you posted some hours ago, so maybe things were working then, but here is my experience now.
Using the AdAware program's internal update procedure, there is some problem, and it is hard (impossible?) to get through for the moment.
More importantly, in my case, the earlier reference files were deleted in the process. !!
    So be aware.
Theoretically you can manually download and install the new files by going to
    www.lavasoftusa.com (or www.lavasoft.de ) and click Download&Buy| "Definition File Updates" .
But as of now, even though the October 5 update is mentioned on that page, downloading will result only in the old September 19 version.
So probably best to wait a day to do anything.

I used the internal update proceedure and got the regular update.

    My details show:

    Definitions File Loaded:
    Reference Number : SE1R125 05.10.2006
    Internal build : 153
    File location : C:\PROGRA~1\Lavasoft\AD-AWA~1\defs.ref
    File size : 794191 Bytes
    Total size : 2571032 Bytes
Signature data size : 2522040 Bytes
Reference data size : 48480 Bytes
    Signatures total : 69245
    CSI Fingerprints total : 3913
CSI data size : 161385 Bytes
    Target categories : 15
    Target families : 987

Jan Roberts said that North Carolina got the update and I tried when I read that post and got the update here in Texas at that time.

Maybe it will get straight by tomorrow....Working it's way West??

I managed to download the update earlier today using the WebUpdate from within the Ad-aware program without any problems. Probably because the update is late in coming out there is now a traffic jam at the Lavasoft server. I think you will just have to be patient and try again tomorrow. For those that can't wait the update is available for manual download and install at Majorgeeks site.

not sure what the heck is going on with my updating the program. even downloading the zip file from majorgeeks or lavasofts web site my defs still read sept 06 and i keep getting an error when doing from the application itself. have uninstalled the program and even manually cleaned the registry and reinstalled to no avail.

I tried the AdAware auto update procedure again this AM, but still no luck and it again deleted the reference file I had. When I went to the Download page, I was able to get a download for the new reference file. This time dated October 6 (not 5), build 153.
When I drag and dropped it into my AdAware folder, the Details link told me my definitions files were "EXPORT ", no date given, but as mentioned the build is 153.
I cannot access Lavasoft's support forum, so am in the dark as to just what is going on.

The update worked for me - albeit at the third attempt. Clearly they have problems with their new website.

Using your link I was able to access the site, but it doesn't appear you're missing anything. There are no new posts showing today, and you'd think with all the to-do here about the problems yesterday that the AA support forum would have been very active. Nothing other than a standard announcement about the new update being available.

I'm sure you're already asking yourself why you're having the strange problems you are that nobody else is reporting having. When an explanation presents itself, be sure to let us know what it turns out to be.

An even newer AdAware's definition file is now out
    Reference Number : SE1R125 06.10.2006
    Internal build : 154
The auto-update seems to be working again.
And the AA support forum is also working again. There now are posts on the problems of the last few days.http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=3893&st=0
