When trying to print from Word and other programs on my XP Prof computer (Dell) to my Dell printer I get an error that prints instead of the document.

    PCL XL error
    Subsystem: KERNEL
    Error: FontUndefinedNoSubstituteFound - Wingdings
    Operator: Text
    Position: 164

This happens on many documents but not all. I have tried reinstalling driver for printer and Dell support says it must be a Windows problem.

This happens with a number of different fonts which are all installed.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

It may be that the font files in question are corrupted and need to be reinstalled.

The fonts and documents apear fine on the monitor and in print preview. Sometimes the error occurs when the font isn't used in the document.

I did have to replace the hard drive by cloning the old drive a while back. I'll try replacing the wingdings font and see if that helps. Should I do a windows reinstall?

I would be inclined to consider that option as a last resort although I feel that it may be the best course of action. If the problem is with the font files a repair of Windows will only repair those that are native to Windows itself. OTOH if the problem is with the font engine then a repair would hopefully resolve the problem.

First off I would repair Word and see if that resolves the problem although you say that other programs are involved - programs other than those included in Office?

If this problem occurred immediately after replacing the hard drive then I would certainly make a repair install of Windows.

All of the problems seam to be in Office programs but not all Office programs. I did a repair of Office to no avail.

Not sure if it started right after hard drive install but I didn't see it before.

It is sounding more like a windows reair install is the best next step.
