    Hello,
Today I did my critical windows updates (I have Windows 2000), as well as updated my Spybot. I restarted the computer. Now when I run Spybot to check for problems, a short while after it starts checking, a box pops up asking for the the disk in drive D. I cannot click out of this box and I have to do a ctrl-alt-del to get out of it. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

    Thanks!

    Jeena

    Hello Jeena,

If this problem is limited to SpyBot, then uninstall and re install Spybot and see if that fixes the problem.

If the problem persists, then I would recommend going to the Spybot forums and asking there http://forums.spybot.info/index.php

    Regards - Charles

I have posted a question on the Spybot forums, but have not received an answer yet. I'm wondering if my problem has anything to do with an update from Microsoft (done right before I updated my spybot). I was reading that update KB902400 had bugs. In doing some searching I read somewhere to check my event viewer. I found the following (via the link) in my viewer. Is it safe to do as they suggest?

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289650/

    Thank you,
    Jeena

    Hi Jeena,

    KB902400 is a patch from 10/05. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E7-D4DB-42D7-8E57-58656A3FB2F7&displaylang=en

Have you just installed it? Or has it been on your system since last year?

If the MS patch has been on all this time, then I would be inclined to wait for a response from SpyBot because its their problem.

If you just installed KB902400, then I would either uninstall the patch or try MS's fix.

You're asking me whether this is safe to do. A better question is whether you can recover from the fix if it solves (or doesn't) this problem but creates another one.

Uninstalling the patch is safer in the sense that you can recover by installing it again, but leaves you open to the condition it was designed to prevent.

If you're prepared to undo the .dll un registering, then go ahead with that. To re register the .dll, same command but leave off /u

What I would do is uninstall the patch - see if that solves the problem with SpyBot, then re install the patch in any case. Then if it did solve the problem, go ahead with un registering the .dll

    Regards - Charles

I had to re-format my hard drive and that is why I was behind on my patches. I received a notice today of an available patch -- This patch fixed my problems. I do have a question. How do you uninstall a patch? I am running Windows 2000 professional.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeena,

MS Security patches create Add/Remove entries, so they can be uninstalled the same way other applications can be.

In XP, there is a feature called System Restore which also can be used to roll back the system state - uninstalling patches and system changes.
Great :) Could you tell us what that patch was?

I had some time today and went to the SpyBot forums. If you ever have do that again, start a thread of your own - get more attention that way. If your problem is like somone else's, then reference that thread.

    Regards - Charles
